Unveiled at the Sydney International Motor Show in November 2000, the Holden Sandman concept was a collaboration between Holden and Australian surfwear brand Mambo. Based on the VU Holden Ute, it featured a vibrant red, orange and tangerine “Bushfire” paint finish, colourful beach-themed murals and a luxurious interior with freeform seating and surround sound.

Originally imagined by designer Andrew Smith in 1997, the concept celebrated the iconic 1970s Sandman Panel Van and its place in Australian culture. Powered by a 5.7-litre V8 engine, the one-off vehicle combined creativity, nostalgia and Australian design, with the potential to inspire a practical recreational vehicle.
